Article from “Lancaster New Era,” December 7, 2006

It’s hard to believe that twenty years have gone by since I first arrived to Millersville University and launched the inaugural Glorious Sounds of the Season!, a scholarship fundraising concert that has always featured the entire Tell School of Music in an extravaganza of a vast variety of music that, this year, featured about 300 performers in 34 acts performed continuously without applause between numbers and no Intermission. The “surround sound” format of the presentation and abundant sing-alongs for the audience are always popular, as GSS has become an annual tradition for many. All three performances on December 6 & 7 sold out, with over $50,000 raised to benefit the students. Congratulations to the entire Tell School of Music for their tremendous contribution of time, talent, and effort that continues to make this event an annual success story for two decades!

Here’s a PDF of the concert program:

As a special holiday gift of sound, the cellphone video below is a recording of the Choral Union (combination of all the Tell School “academic” choirs) in a pre-concert warm-up of my arrangement of “The Huron Carol” in Biemesderfer Concert Hall. The natural acoustics are better here than in Clair Performance Hall but, unfortunately, Dr. Ross Ellison isn’t accompanying us on the organ as in the concert. The energy, enthusiasm and joy of the singers delivering a convincing performance of the choral parts will certainly warm your heart for the holidays!
